The Final Chapter
Unfortunately, this entry comes to you in the form of an obituary.
It is with regret that I write to inform you of the passing of friend and fellow housetrucker Roger D. Beck, author of Some Turtles Have Nice Shells. Roger had been coping with advancing Parkinson's Disease for several years, and the complications thereof became more than his body could withstand on April 2, 2021. Roger was 74 years of age.
Roger and his longtime life partner, Ruth moved into assisted care residency together as his condition worsened. Roger was able to reconcile with his daughter after some years of estrangement, which was a comfort to him. A family inheritance supplied him with financial security towards the end, but came too late for he and Ruth to enjoy a luxury retirement, which both richly deserved.
His collaborator and web master, Fred May worked with a professional web design firm to refresh and expand his web site www.housetrucks.com into a very contemporary and enjoyable experience. The site will continue to be maintained, and his book remains available for purchase though the site.
Personally, I feel some remorse for not knowing that his end was near, and as such, was only informed of his death when I stopped by his wood shop some months after his passing for an impromptu visit.
Go well, Roger. If there is an afterlife, I'm sure you will make the most of it.
